The Highway Department is composed of 2 groups: Engineering and Maintenance.

Engineering Division
The Engineering Division typically hires approximately 6 temporary employees each year. The positions become available each spring to assist the survey party chiefs with the surveying and inspection responsibilities.
The temporary Engineering positions generally start in mid to late May and continue through the construction season that ends in September or October, depending on the weather. The temporary positions are an excellent way for college students, especially civil engineering students, to gain hands on experience in the area of transportation and construction engineering.
Maintenance Division
The Maintenance Division typically hires 7 temporary employees each year. The positions are needed to assist the Maintenance Foreman, Shop Foreman and Signing Foreman.
