Mark Empting grew up in Dilworth and graduated from Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School in 1992.  He received his Law Enforcement training at Alexandria Technical College, as well as specialized training sponsored by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.  He has served in Law Enforcement since 1997.  


Mark has worked as a Police Officer for the cities of Glyndon and Dilworth and has been a member of the Dilworth Fire Department since 1991 where he currently serves as Fire Chief.  Mark started with the Sheriff’s Office in June of 2001 as a part-time deputy working in the Courthouse.  In 2002, he was hired as a full-time deputy working in the Patrol Division.  His assignments with the Sheriff’s Office include; Field Training Officer, Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor, Assistant Emergency Manager, Sergeant assigned to the Patrol Division and the Patrol Division Commander.  Mark is also the President of the Clay County Peace Officer’s Association and the Clay County Fire Chief’s Association. 


His priorities as Sheriff are to maintain a high level of service for the county while making the Sheriff’s Office more cost effective; to support and expand our current involvement with the School Resource Officers, Federal Drug Task Force; to support the Gang Task Force, youth education, as well provide crime prevention programs for all Clay County Residents.
